The last picture on that eBay page should provide all the clues, Woz.
The swingarm is hinged in the main frame (the big round thing on the side is the axle). The shock is mounted directly to the swingarm itself.
The bit on the top/front (above the pivot) is actually supposed to stop the swingarm from going upwards too much. It would use the outer cables to avoid hitting the frame itself.
Needless to say, it's a seriously flawed design and only allows for about 2" of travel.
It's a classical example of the crazy/foolish designs manufacturers tried out just to get ahead of the competition in the early full-suspension days. 99% of those designs never made it to production, but this one did.
Those pics are giving me a lot of info on the 828's specs tho. I needed those.
