RS Indy "LT" elastomers in a

saccades

Devout Dirtbag
I've been given a skipbound Trek Y3 (97/98) which is to be given to an uncle to allow him to try to get fitter.

It's in decent shape, mainly needs new cables for the gears/brakes except for the Indy C elastomer which is shot.

Does the Indy long travel kit contain the elastomers (I know nothing about older suspension forks)?

Ie could this kit on Ebay be used to get the fork "Ok" again?

Another option I found via the search function was to get some PU tube which tempting as this is a fix on a budget

any ideas?

Re:

Do you especially want to keep the RS Indy fitted? If not just swap for a working fork, for example I have a Spinner 565 spring fork which has plush 100mm of tavel. It is neither light weight or finely controlled in the rough but will be better than the Indy. You could have it for less than the cost of that kit. There will be plenty of other options if you search.

That's a thought I hadn't had.

Postage to ROI would be?

Is it V-brake (bad weather is knackering my internet, I can't even get pictures)?

Uncle lives in a bit of a hole and I doubt he'll bother to cycle much so I'm limiting the budget to 3/5ths of bugger all so I won't be upset when it gets stolen or rusts in the garden.

Quick quote looks like £12 withUPS. The forks I have are both v brake and disc, yellow and cosmetically marked but work great for leisure riding.

I am sure I could get them to you for close to £25. Pm me your email address and postcode if interested and I can get a firm postage cost and email you photos.

Re:

Many thanks for the offer -I would have taken you up on it except I stripped and cleaned up the fork and it's working well (better than I expected), so no need to replace.

Re:

Well done, hope he is pleased with all your efforts when finished. You really ought to post some pics up too :).

Will this be your last project or are you getting a taste for it? I am just finishing my second and itching for another even though I can't justify having 4 bikes LOL.

Re:

I kinda already had some recent retro-ish builds - merida transmission '04 to a Centurion LRS (06) but updated with modern equipment (and some frame drilling).

Enjoying this so far, much cheaper if you make a mistake (although you'd have to be patient for the right bit to show up) but I've 6 proper bikes and numerous kiddie bikes in a small shed so anything else is going to have to wait (I'd struggle to justify another bike with just the 1 bum too).

I think he'll be happy, I'm certainly happy it's not going straight into a skip.
