Hi there
I recently bought this Rossin Ghibli late eighties bike for a reasonable price of around £300,-
As far as I can understand, it is equipped with a full Camapa Chorus Group, with two X seven gears, with the exception of the hubs, which is Campa Record C at the rear and a Shimanao Dura Ace at the front. The brake handles is the Camap Chorus combi type that can have the brake wire coming out on top or along the handle bar. I will install the new brake wire in the non-aero style out of the top, just because I think its look better.
I am not 100% sure about this headset; could this be an earlier Campa record type?
It has Cinelli Stem and handlebar
The crank arms have this marking:
The saddle is made in September 1987, but I believe it is not the original saddle, as the Ghibli shall have a San Marco Regal.
The left rear dropout has BS 31 stamped on it, and the bottom bracket shell has SPX stamped on the bottom left side and 62 on the right side.
The bike is in reasonable condition and I will keep it in original condition, just touching up some patches with white enamel paint. I dismantled the bike yesterday, and unfortunately I found a damaged bottom bracket bearing, and shaft, a lot of stiff gung in all moving parts, some corrosion inside the frame, but not too badly.
I have since the purchase managed to Source a NOS San Marco saddle in white, a couple of New Campa Omega Strada rims and a Record C front hub, to complete the bike.
At the Eroica in Blakewell there was one similar bike for sale, but that was equipped with Camapa Nuevo Record group, but also a later Record C headset.
The color combination seen here is not indicated in the 1988 catalog available here on internet, and other catalogues from this area seems to be thin on ground.
I think the bike is from the area from 1987 to 1990, but I like your opinion trying to pin the year of manufacturing down to one year.
And will it be elegible for the Eroica?
Thanks in advance
