In the last 10 or so years how the monkeys do I know which RS to buy, anyone give me a helping hand on understanding the hierarchy of the different models

Judy
Duke
Tora
Recon
Psylo
Dart
Indy
SID etc

I need some with v brake - does that exclude any of the models?

Cheers chaps

   8) :P :? :o

Thats not an easy one to answer!!! There are multiple versions off all those forks plus you forgot a few too like Pikes, Revelations, Boxxers, Rebas, Pilots, Lyrics, Argyle, Domain, Totem etc. You could write a book on the subject!!!

It's probably best if you specify the type of fork your after? Approximate age? Travel? Budget, mid range or high end etc?

Wowzer

Looking for something 2000 onwards. Black. V brake. Short travel 80mm budget to mid range, not difficult to service or require much looking after. Not too concerned about weight either

Modern RS forks list from low>high, in the XC/Trail range

Dart
Tora
Recon
Revelation
Reba
Sid

Then there are 3 (I think) damping types, again in order low>high

Turnkey
Motion Control (MoCo)
BlackBox

Not many available brand new with V brake mounts, Dart's & Tora's basically, but you can get forks that are a couple of years old that do have them & have much better damping, such as the Reba (which is an awesome fork!)

Reba's come in many flavours but they're all good, all have MoCo damping, they range from 80mm-120mm travel, some are travel adjustable (U-Turn). All are air forks, which makes them highly tunable, most have a remote lockout on the bar & they're pretty light for modern forks, the Reba's weigh ~4lb, they don;t usually need much servicing, but if you do need a service then a seal kit service is easy to do & there are loads of how to's on t'web

In summary, buy a 2nd hand pair of RS Reba's ;)

I'm a pretty devoted hater of slushpension on a bike but was quite surprised at unocogeros rebas for not just flopping about and actually did what you want a fork to do .

Reba's are really good but Dukes are good too and can be had for less. Basically Dukes ran from around 2000 to 2005 and Rebas took over where they left off. SRAM bought Rockshox in 2003/4 ish (I think) and their quality improved greatly so if you do go for a Duke look out for the later ones indicated by the "Powered by SRAM" sticker running down the inner edge of one of the legs.

I recently brought a set of Rebas and they're pretty damn good and great at £250 from Merlin cycles.

I do believe that you can still get SIDs in 80mm still and V mounts...I'd say that would be the best option if budget allows it
