Road Bike, max £200 spend

Hi all - I'm looking for a decent second-hand road bike for a friend, he intends to commute 10 miles a day on it, and wants something with drop handlebars.

• Max spend £200, prefer a little lower so he can get mudguards, etc
  Nothing too retro, he'll need to be able to pick up parts for it easily
  He's about 5'8 tall so no monster frame sizes
  Preferably somewhere local to Herts/Beds/Bucks

Long shot, but I'd love to dig up a local Trek/Specialized from late 90/2000's for him, otherwise he's thinking about buying some complete heap from the Tesco website of all places, which I expect would self destruct within 2 weeks of commuting!

I know some of the brands are different in the UK than here but I would look for a decent aluminum bike with say 105? Steel is popular again but no one seems to want the alloy frames right now. You did not mention what size frame he needs but here is an example:
