Yet another great gone, adding to the roll call of the fast disappearing decades of my childhood and yoof – Barry Norman. Here he is with the great Bob Hoskins rummaging around the inner city banks of the Thames in great little documentary on still pertinent issues. Listen closely to Barry at around 3 mins 39 seconds in – did he really say that his "former trade" was breaking into houses?

Shame he left the BBC as look what they replaced him with  the show was never the same.

Re:

Yes, the Beeb doing their usual thing with something much loved and unbroken – casually suggesting may be it's time for someone to retire and refreshing what they see as a tired old format with an injection of some edgy yoof. They certainly did that with poor Brian Matthew – loved his Sounds of the Sixties radio show which was packed with a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes from the music scene. As well the obvious well known tunes, he did feature some real obscure gems too. I really miss Brian. There were many Saturday mornings spent listening to him in the van when we set off on our travels. We'd switch off at 10am and play cds when 'Wossy' came on.

Sounds of the sixties was perfect. Loved him. Don't listen any more now. Just rubbish
