Rigid forks and Aluminium frames..

I ride a fully rigid Attitude w/ the aluminum fork and a KHS w/ steel frame and fork. I definitely notice a difference in the ride. Where I ride there's not a ton of really rough trails so the Klein does fine but for a longer ride on a rough trail it'd probably be too jarring.

I can feel the difference on my road bikes but its less so on the mtb. I have a 2.25 tyre fitted on the alu/alu rigid and this probably has more effect on comfort.

I have ti forks on my ti frame and it's definitely less harsh than any allpy frames I've ridden. Big bumps are still what they are, but the overall ride is smoother and my arms and body are less fatigued at the end of a ride. Even riding on cobblestone strrets through the city feels smooth.

Note: steel and ti share similar properties with shock absorbtion.

I'll be expecting a harsh ride then once I've built my rigid Tempest

Alloy frame and cro-mo forks here we come

fork design/material and frame design itself lend more to the ride comfort than it just being steel or aluminium

it's true there's a lot of overlap, a well designed ally frame may be more 'comfortable' than a poorly designed steel one.

I discovered this with my titanium frame - I'm coming to the conclusion that, while I do not know its brand, it's reasonably low end since the ride it gives is really quite harsh compared to my high end steel frames. Yet common perception would dictate that the titanium ride should be smoother then the steel one.

My Hei Hei with P2 forks is noticably less punishing than my chameleon or cannnondale or klein with rigid forks but they are still all really ace to ride :-) Tyres are more important i think

I agree. I have Ritchey Logic on my frames and an un-branded alloy fork on one. Not much different. But tire pressure makes a big difference
