I have a week in Combe Martin in the near future.

Any views on what the riding is like round there? I was thinking of taking the road bike - unless I can be convinced about the offroad riding.

Thanks in advance :)

Spoilt for choice really.

I have just come back from a weekend walking on Exmoor. Really good, country roads...try Countesbury and Porlock hills, and the Lynmouth, Simonsbath, Exford road.

Look out for the toll roads a) from Porlock/ Lynmouth, and b) on the way west from Lynton via the valley of the rocks. You will never ride roads like them anywhere in England. 8)

The Moor is full of great tracks and surprises. Just look at an OS map.

Have fun,

Dave

I has a week there last year - lovely place :)

If you're going for a holiday, you're not staying in the old fire station by any remote chance are you?

Oh, and if you want a nice pub, try the "Pack O'Cards":

I do a lot of road riding around the area as I only live 'down the road', you just can't go wrong!

We cycled down into Combe Martin a couple of weeks ago on our regular Thu' night ride, a 20 odd mile round trip.

Climb out of C' Martin up to Holdstone Down then you're on Exmoor. Look up the 'Exmoor-Beast' http://www.exmoorbeast.org/ ride route for ideas. Actually there's an 'Exmoor-Beauty' http://exmoorbeauty.org/ coming up soon which I can't make unfortunately.

I park up in The Pack of Cards car park every Tues' lunchtime as my job takes me from Berrynarbour into C' Martin that day.

Enjoy your trip, wonderful part of the world :D

Matt.

Been going to that part of Devon since i was a kid :)

The toll road from Lynton via Valley of the Rocks to the Hunters Inn is my favorite road in the country 8) and the Hunters Inn is a lovely pub too

Thanks for the tips. Keep em coming :)
Are we going with road bikes or MTB here guys?

Staying about 1.5 miles south of Coombe Martin

If you want off road the you want to go north out of Combe Martin past the Pack o' Cards and up the nice Looong hill onto Exmoor where ther are plenty of trails :)
Or drive up & park in one of the many car parks.

Enjoy

I mean't through the town towards the Dinosaur & animal park

Lovely part of the world. The riding on Exmoor is very good and worth taking an MTB for. There is (was, anyway) a really quaint little motorcycle museum in Combe Martin too - nice way to spend an hour or two if it's raining.
