Found my old bike in the garage, thinking about cleaning it up and selling. I can't find anything online, is it worth anything to anyone?

Re:

Sadly, these are not worth very much at all. I have one and I think I paid less than £30 for it, with all the original components, although it was in tatty condition. However, they are nice, light frames. Yours looks like it has had the brake cable guide near the seat tube clamp cut, presumably to get the V brakes to work. If anything, that might devalue it further. As a matter of interest, though, how well did that work?

Anyway, this is one where you're likely to be much better off selling the parts separately. Unfortunately, I can't see what all the components are. If the derailleurs are the original STX ones and in good, clean condition, they are worth about £10-£12 each. The shifters/brake levers, probably about £20-£25 if, again, they're the STX ones in good condition. The wheels, perhaps £20 each, with the same provisos. I'm not sure that is the STX crankset but if it is: £20-£25. Rockshox (XC30?): £50-£60. Brakes, seatpost, stem: about £8 each. These are prices to sell, not to hold out for top whack/a mug. Frame: you'll probably end up giving it away - perhaps a good one for a community project where kids are taught how to build up bikes. Do you have the original forks, too? If in doubt about prices, check eBay, but look at the prices items have actually sold for, not what people are hoping to get.

Alternatively, restore and enjoy. These were good, fun bikes.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.

The bike was originally bought by my dad's friend new back in the 90s, they were big into their biking so I'm not sure which parts are original and not. The gearing is shimano STX so I assume that's all the original.

It rides really nice considering it sat in his garage for 10 or so years, I used it to get to work for a bit but then sadly it ended up sitting in my garage for a number of years.

The v brakes work very well, I didn't realise he had to modify the frame to get them on, he's done a good job if so. A little bit of goosing but if my memory serves me right pretty much all v brakes squeak at some point?

The wheels need a little spoke tinkering but other than that it's very nice.

I was never really planning on selling, unless someone was interested for their collection, just really checking it's not a super rare bike before I give it away.

I'm going to spend the day cleaning her up and will advertise it for free on Facebook I think... Either that or use it as a pub bike

Splitting and selling isn't a bad idea really, I guess it could go towards buying a new one, I'm not sure what to do with it lol.

Again thanks for the reply

Re:

Awesome write up from CA... 8)
I deffo wouldn't Facebook it & give it away, some irresponsible scrote will end up with it and it would be a real shame!
If you decide to get rid of it advertise it for sale on here first, it may well be what someone is looking for & will treat it with respect it deserves despite it' low value!
Cheers

Re:

I want those tyres !
Seriously I would keep it complete and ride it looks tidy enough to me
Sadly it probably doesn’t have great value as it is and would be worth more
Sold for parts which is a real shame
