RetroMod 90-93 Marin

I'm looking to see if anyone has updated a Marin from the early 90's.

I've got one (90 Team Marin), and I'm trying to decide between original glory or new revival.

Depends on what you mean by updated...? What do you intend to achieve with the update?

I have a 1990 Palisades converted to a drop bar tourer and a 1994 Pine Mountain lightly updated with shortish travel sus forks and more modern mechs etc. However, remember that modern long-travel forks will upset the steerign geometry.

PM me for details.

Here's my '93 Eldridge Grade. Got mostly mid-nineties kit on it and its still fantastic. Cant really see how i could improve its performance aside from changing the brakes and putting a fork on it. So personally i would stick with a retro build as you should be able to pick up some decent kit for cheaper than the modern equivalent.

Oh and welcome to retrobike :D

Hi PHeller,

I'm actually trying to build a marin team from 89/90 with parts from the same ages...Maybe I have some infos, depend what you need...

The picture is how is the built actually, it's not the wheels dedicate to it... I'm actually trying to assemble some, I have too some few others parts that I have to put on it...so it's nearly finished...

hey Gee, I had seen your bike but didn't know how active you were.

That orange paint scheme looks great. I wonder if both Team frames had the same geometry in that year?

Send us a pic  ...

I just now there's few differences between some team issue frame from nearly the same age...89/91... It's not always the same builder... Kelly Burr, Tom Teesdale...(don't know the others)...not always the same tubing (mine have reynolds stuff to put the rear wheel (hey sorry I didn't find the name in english) so maybe he is in reynolds but not so sure..., and some are in Tange)..., the same size of fork can change too, etc. So I suppose the geometry can be different...

Bye,
Gui!

It's funny, as popular and common as later model Marins are on this site, there is very little info about the 89/90 Steel Team Models. Tons of info about the Team Ti, but little about steel.

Oh yes! A work to do...But...it need more precise infos to do it...I'm sure somebody have them...but...I wrote to Tom Teesdale... héhé...but of course...no answer...I tried just for "fun"...I will PM you a picture, maybe you've already found it because it's from retro bike...but...There not a lot of thing in it, it's from the catalogue, I guess of 1991, because it's not exactly the same than mine, wich is probably from 90...
If you have infos...etc...I could be interested.
Bye
Gui
