I'm sure that this has been covered before, but what is your greatest retro related regret (apart from not being born John Tomac of course)?

And was it Swiss Toni who said "what is life without regret"? What indeed

My dad selling his Chas Roberts White Spider

Sold it to my brothers mate who had the frame refinished, looked and rode fantastic....for about 2 weeks - he went on holiday and some **** nicked it from his garage.

Was left really secure too, someone knew what it was and wanted it, followed him home no doubt.

Just nipping into the shop for a Mars bar and not locking the Zaskar LE up.
(First time I'd ever done it too. :( )

not winning that XL Yo in chameleon a few weeks ago :(

The one thing that I regret is riding my 'Orange Formula' straight into a back of a parked car   I hasten to add my head was down and giving it death.. If I had only know then , what I know now about these frames, I would have sealed it in an airtight bag and hidden it somewhere..

Sounds to me like that you should be proud of this event: like rock stars chucking tellies out of hotel windows, trashing rare metal is a stripe of life and not to be regretted. You can collect things in bags later.

:)

Nothing too serious, just lack of 20:20 hindsight.

Gave away a set of RC35s years back...
God knows what I did with a Ringle water bottle cage...
Threw away cranks, mechs, shifters when SSing the Kona thinking they were worthless...

Mainly just not riding enough, giving up on MTBing after my accident and a poor race experience and forgetting that it is just great to get out and ride (Not an ad for MBR honest)...

This will cheer you all up,

Regrets, well sort of question such at times, but I made a decision with my partner some years back to have a family and rooms had to be cleared.

Selling my Klein Attitude, which had SID's Crossmax, full XTR, Race Face finishing kit with Team SL headset with XY post and System stem and bars.

Selling my Stumpy M2 which had an XT/XTR mix with race face finishing kit as above, Crossmax wheels, and custom mix SID's.

Selling my Dean Titanium, which had Pace RC31 rigid carbon forks, full XTR with custom parts, Mavic MX 601 hubs with 517 ceramics, Syncros Titanium post, Syncros Polished Stem, Answer Hyperlight bars. (I even fitted a new flight to this with its little tags and all)

Selling my GT Zaskar which had full 9speed XT inc wheels, and pace Pro class.

Selling my Allez E5 SLX with full Dura Ace, Deda finishing kit including a Carbon Magnesium post which weighed around 140grams.

Selling various wheelsets such as Crosmax, Hugi's on D521, Red hope Ti Glide + Fatso on 217 ceramics, silver Hope Ti-Glide and lighweight on silver 517's, and a pair of rear 28h Crossmax rims which were intended for a project which I cancelled when the newer Ceramic 517's came out.

Selling various forks, inc AMP, Nollen Carbon Elite Judy XC, SL and XL's, Pace Pro Class, SID's.

And selling 8speed XTR and XT components due to friends needing a replacement and it sitting in the loft unused.

Bucket loads of regrets, most of which would have been completely impratical to keep, and to be honest some of the kit had limitations, such as 60mm travel only on the Dean, the Kleins fragile frame, The Zaskar was too big.

I had most of the above up until the first baby, sold lots of accesories as well as the bikes, I intended to Build another Titanium HT later, but never seemed to have the time, and ended up spending it on audio equipment, which due to kids I don't have much time to listen to.

On the plus side, I still have a few bits in my loft such as a Fat Chance frame, Avid arch Rival Supremes, Magnesiums with Ti hardware, and various XT/XTR 8speed stuff, plus some Carbon bars and an old pair of SID's which I think have a damaged cart? And Judy spares such as new XC stantions, new Cart, a couple of old pairs of lower legs, and I'm sure I also have Bushings.

I can either build another Retro Bike, or sell all the old stuff I have left and put it toward a new Ti frame. And now that my eldest boy is starting school and my youngest nursery me and my partner MAY get more time to ride, she has a Santa Cruz Juliana HT, I have an 08 Marin Rift Zone SE.

Still would prefer a retro 17" ti frame of solid construction (I'm around 189lb) with no disc mounts and suitable for 80mm-100mm forks, preferably with a 27.2 seat pin. But of course due to kids I have little money..sigh...
