Just been reading the december edition of MBUK and I noticed on page 107 'Charge Splashback Tyres', which look quite nice for cheapo restorations or retro looks but upgraded performance..

They look light enough for a modern tyre

120 TPI Kevlar Casing
Dual Tread Compound
Lightweight and fast rolling
Weight: 450/518g
Size: 26x1.8 / 26x2.1

Bead: Folding. This tyre was designed for performance in long distance mountain bike events, where weather, conditions and terrain are inevitably variable. This makes it adept at coping with a variety of conditions and lengths of ride.
It features: Low profile and tapered centre knobs for speed and good mud shedding. Concave walled side knobs provide plenty of cornering bite. Can be used front or rear.

I've been eyeing these up too, they look promising for a modern alternative.

I have been toying with the plans of purchasing a pair of Charge splashbacks , I want to go 1.8 but would like to see a pair fitted before I commit. I have seen the choirmasters and they looked great but a 2.5 would not go on any of my boneshakers ........

Me too I would like some for my winter build, but you can never tell from a picture or a size how big they will actually be.
