Restoring my Kilauea

Mark's Kilauea

Retro Newbie
I've been lurking for a while and seeing all these nice retro bikes motivated me to get mine out the back of the garage. I've got a 16" 1997 Kilauea which is a bit scruffy bit pretty much original. It needs a few things doing and I'm seriously considering getting it re-painted but undecided whether to get it colour matched and keep it original or do something custom (but still getting some quality reproduction period correct decals).

I've realised how much I've forgotton about bikes, especially what bits fit and seems the world has moved on so I'm parts shopping but already struggling to remember what size things are.

what are thoughts on suspension forks for this bike? I always like the rigid P2s but I'm 44 now and not sure the bones are quite as supple as they were 23 year's ago. I'm not necessarily looking for something period accurate so a more modern fork would be preferred but seems like fork length and wheel sizes might be an issue? Also don't want to mess up the geometry.

lots more questions but will save those for another day. And a pic of my Kona as found in the back of the garage untouched in nearly 18 years to follow shorlty...

Nice looking forward to it

suspension wise some old marzocchi bombers with 80mm ish travel would look cracking
