Hey Everyone,

I am planning on doing a restomod build in the coming months and I have the choice of the following two frames for the build;

1991 Specialized Stumpjumper Team - Cost at $350AUD

1988 Mongoose Sycamore All Terrain - Cost $60AUD

The Specialized comes with Tange prestige tubing with the direct drive fork, the Mongoose comes with Tange tubing with a 4130 Chromo Forks. The Mongoose will be stripped and powdercoated whereas the Specialized just needs a good polish.

The build will consist of the following for both bikes:

Shimano Zee Crankset with single drive 34T chainring
Shimano SLX 10 speed cassette and chain
Shimano Zee 10 speed shifter
Shimano XT 32H hubs laced to a Mavic or Sun rims
Avid Digit 7's with speed dial 7's
Carbon Seatpost, Stem and Handlebar (Chinese)
Prologic Saddle

If I choose the Mongoose an exotic carbon fork will be added and disc brakes may be on the card as well.

What do I want from the bike it will be an occasional XC trail rider along with a pathway bike once and a while.Considering cost I want to keep the build under $600AUD.

Which frame from a cost point it will be the Mongoose but from pedigree it would be the Specialized.
