Removing optical gear display on M748 rapidfire

If I want to remove the optical gear display on my new rapidfire units I'm left with this hole. Would they have originally been supplied with some sort of blanking plate? :?

Hope you get an answer! I've had the same problem on the ones fitted to my Rocky Mountain ETSX. I had to remove them to give me more room for the Hope M4s. Just stuck a bit of electrical tape on it for now!

Gaffer tape was going to be my quick fix!

no use to you but I did simply rip the blighters off one ride...

left a usefull amount of plastic behind to cover the holes.

Unfortunately this is one of the models that Shimano don't supply blanking plates for. All the newer ones have them clipped to the underside of the gear indicator.
