fitted the Cane Creek crown race the the Z2 BAM's but.. when I replace the headset.. how do I get the thing off without marking the forks?

It's a bloody tight fit and there's no 'overhang'.. removed them from the rigids with a T-bar allen key a rubber hammer. Utilising the overhang.

Hammer a thin blade between the race and the crown, working your way around, then a thicket blade and so on. It'll pop off after a few rounds.

Ok..cool.. is there a tool to make sure the new one is all the way down to the crown?
Or do people DIY it?

There is a tool and it's pretty much a long piece of pipe.

Though if you tap it on and keep going around gently it should be fine

Don't the BAM's have the notch on them to help you get the crown off, mine do.

I've get an Mavic 316 crown sat on a RS MAG21 steerer, this things thick and leaves no gap for a screw driver to go through (well other than in to the crown) So I think some time with a hair dryer is in call for me and hope the ring expands quicker than the steerer.

I don't know the cane creek one (only one I have is I think S8 one and some flimsy bendy thing)

Oh and if you hadn't guesses, try heating it up to expand it on both putting it on and taking it off.
P.S Will your race work with S8 headset and do you need it ;)

Dunno about fitment but I have to use the Cane Creek until Wife relaxes her grip on the purse strings..
And I'm not allowed a new headset until the frame is repainted (I suppose there's some logic there

The BAM's do have a notch (maybe 2).. it came off a pair of RST's, they have a notch (or 2) and found it pretty useless.. probably just me being useless/hamfisted though.. never done anything like this before (does it notice?? ;) )

if you're really worried about the crown getting marred put some duct tape or masking tape on it.
