Just some advice needed guys....I have a pair of old Ringle skewers which after 19 years of use, they look a bit tatty.

Seen info on t'web that it's possible to remove the anodising using oven cleaner?
Has anyone tried it? What did you use and what results did you get?

Thanks in advance... :)

If using caustic soda be careful. If left on too long it can damage the alloy i believe :? .I think its a matter of painting it on,then rinsing it in cold water to kill the reaction. How long you immerse it i dont know but the member defiant has done this.
Search him out and ask

Using caustic soda is the quickest and easiest but also has the most chances of going wrong.

Make sure that the parts you are stripping are totally clean of grease and dirt before you start, any grease will retard the process in parts and will lead to a patchy finish. Then do the following:

1) Get two plastic bowls
2) fill one with cold water and one with warm water
3) add 1 tablespoon of caustic soda crystals to the warm water and stir
4) dip the skewers into caustic soda bowl for 5 seconds then remove and dip in water bowl.
5) check how much colour has gone and repeat 4 accordingly. Dont go too long as this will pit the surface.

You'll find that the coloured anno is replaced with a black coating that washes of by scrubbing with washing up liquid and a toothbrush. Now polish with metal polish.
