Reece Exocet ?

At work in the bike shed sits a Reece Exocet mtb, never heard of it but its not a cheapo HT steel behemoth.

Seems to be 7000 series oversized alloy with a canti brake hanger on the frame that suggests mid 90's to me. Further the Acera-X groupset with five arm cranks also suggests 90's.

Anyone ever heard of this maker or bike, i'm just curious as just when you think you've heard of every maker another shows up.

Also recently on ebay I seen a lugged steel 531 reynolds mtb by Proteus, who are they ?

Thanks for any info you knowledgeable people can share.

PS sorry for double post, slight hiccup with PC

......Reece Exocet mtb.......

Reece were the importers of Univega in the mid-late 90s. The Exocets were a range of bikes that were slightly less expensive, and usually lower spec, than the Univega equivalent. The ones we used to sell were copies of the Alpina 500, ie db chromoly frame and forks.

They were very under rated bikes purely because they didn't have the brand image that Univega had. Imo they were just as good frame-wise but not so good on the component side.

They are still in business so you could try emailing them and asking about your bike. Their web address is: www.reececycles.co.uk
