Re-Chroming Recommendations?

Ayup,

Can anyone recommend a good chroming specialist? I took a few pairs of forks and some Jensen parts to my local place last week to find that they have closed down. I need good quality, reasonable turnaround and somewhere that works with couriers- I don't have time to go there personally.

Thanks in advance.

Only place I know of, that I've actually been recommended to by people who care a lot for the motorbikes they restore, is http://www.marquerestore.co.uk. Based in Coventry but, apparently, they work with couriers. Not used them personally but as I understand it they specialise in restoring old pieces (removing rust, welding bits in, etc, etc). :)

Is that Jensen as in interceptor? (Actually think that was Jenson)

classic car and motorcycle magazines often have chromers in thier adverts..might be worth a free look next time your near a magazine display?

Yes, a MkII Interceptor. I'm finally getting round to finishing it off. Its getting paint over Xmas and I need a few small exterior trim items rechroming. Engines finished and a few large boxes of go faster goodies have just arrived from RealSteel this morning. I'm close to weeing my pants with excitement to hear it fire up again. :D

My Dad had a go in one many years ago, when they were new, and loved it - very nearly bought one himself last year but opted for a TVR instead. Hope you get it sorted anyway, good luck and all that. :)

So Si, your Jensen has a 440 and a 4 speed-or automatic? Must cost a fortune to drive with the gas prices you have over there, it's bad enough over here at about $3.38 a gallon!

Hi Pat,

I only do a few thousand miles a year so its not too bad. Insurance is only £100 and there is no road tax to pay, plus it goes up in value every year rather than down so I see it as cheap motoring. I once worked out the running cost per mile on the Jensen compared to a new BMW of similar value. Taking fuel, insurance, tax, servicing and depreciation into consideration spread over anaverage of 12,000miles per anum the Jensen came out at 56 pence per mile and the BMW £1.38 per mile. Greatvalue for money and so much more fun!

Engine wise it runs a stock-ish 383 with plus 60 pistons, decked block, lightly ported heads with a mild Comp Cams camshaft, topped off with a Holley 670cfm Street Avenger carb on an Edelbrock Performer RPM inlet, tubular headers and a pair of 2.75" stainless exhausts, Mallory electronic ignition and billet dizzy. Should be good for around 420-430bhp. Transmission is 3 speed A-727 Torqueflite with Art Carr shift improvement kit and valve body, high stall lock up convertor and updated clutches and Kevlar bands.

Try Prestige Platers in Wombwell. They do a lot of classic bike restoration work and I think the owner is a cyclist. Used by several RB members (but more of the road persuasion generally  )
