RC36 crown race problem.

Hi all, i bought a new race face headset for my kona and when i went to start building up my bike i found that the crown race slips over the steerer tube and feels far too loose.
It has a 1mm gap and jiggles about when you shake the fork!

Ive measured the steerer and its 1 1/8th in diameter, the same as the steerer in the RST forks fitted before. However, the pace forks seem to be missing the "bump" at the bottom of the steerer tube thats slightly fatter than the rest of the tube and makes the race a tight fit.

Whats going on?

You're missing the shim that came with the forks.

Bolted crown Pace forks don't have a bulge for the lower race, you need a collar that goes on the steerer.

Standard RC36's 1996 ish around 60 mm travel your brake mounts are on backwards too...

(brakes should face the back on pace forks...well as standard)

1997 RC36; brakes were fitted to face rear from factory. Crown race collar is the shim you need; all sizes in stock, have sent PM

Btw I'd get that serviced if I were you; just look at those dirty blackened old wiper seals
