Rare obtainable bikes.

Reading the thread on bikes you'd like to own got me thinking about how often some of my choices show up for sale.

The reason I say obtainable is that you lot could quite easily give me a list of ultra rare exotica that'll never turn up because they only made 3 of 'em.

I'm talking about a model in a general range that doesn't turn up often. Can be high or low end. Might be because they all broke bitd or that no one bought them.

My choice and the one that got me thinking is the 1990 Team Marin (fluro pink forks). When I got my first mtb these were just about the most expensive bike in the local shop so me and my pal obviously lusted after one (in the days before I discovered Orange :roll: ). I've seen maybe one or two since I got the retrobike bug. Others on my list in the other thread inc Yo Eddy's and Pace's show up far more often and this makes the Marin a bit of a unicorn for me even though I'm not that bothered about riding one. If you want any other zolatone 90 Marin then you've got no worries because they often show up but not the Team :?

So having described what I'm on about is there any others that fit the bill?

I was thinking Santana Moda, but that probably falls into the 'they only built 3 of them' category....certainly not many pop up, in discussion or otherwise.

Also, I'm always on the hunt for Univega Alpina Pro models-I have one now, but it's too small by a long shot. Seriously well built, Spinner SCI drops, Tange Prestige, etc.

I'm still looking for a '95 DBR Vertex TA to complete the collection....only ever seen one for sale and it was too small.

A lot of them had cracks and breaks - I remember about 5 or 6 coming back all with cracks around the front mech joint or about halfway down the seat tube - they were all returned under warranty but only ever saw one replacement - think there may have been a manufacturing flaw there...

The first ever sale on here was strangely enough, a zolatone team Marin with faded pink decals...

Anyway, I havent seen a 531 framed Claud Butler mountain bike since my first one back in '91, they've all been K2 or 501.

Not very exciting but that was my first 'proper' mtb.
