A friend of mine in school in 1990??? had one just like this....it was very nice indeed. I picked this up the other day locally....the guy I bought it from said he was selling on behalf of someone who had told him to throw it away. He thought it was all rusted but after inspecting it found that someone many, many years ago had gone to the trouble of covering almost the entire bike in grease! As you can imagine.....it was gleaming underneath....the only little mark on the bike is on the underside of the downtube.....looks like a pedal mark from another bike
The only non original part is the period Ladies Madison saddle.....when my missus saw this she claimed the whole bike as hers :)
It has a lovely lugged 501 frame, full Deore LX with DX cantis, Araya RM-17 rims.

Nice that - the frame (lugs, fittings, groupset etc) looks very much like my Dads Raleigh Peak that I am picking up in a few days.

What year is it? Early/mid 90s?

I think this is a 90 or 91? Peaks were out at the same time as summits & apexs so 93 I think for yours?

Sounds about right, The Peak has some "Custom" K2 tubing but geometry/design wise its looks very similar.

I hope to pick it up this week, its in a good condition, but clearly used. Its full Deore LX, but like yours its got the plastic brake leavers, which if I recall are not much good?

They aren't great tbh....and i am no fan of Sti's either...if I was going to ride it....thumbies and 2-finger levers all the way

I was thinking similar. Many moons ago I had an Apex (400LX - Girvin flex stem  ). I upgraded the shifters to DX Thumbies, and some sort of DiaCompe 2 Finger leavers - I forget the name.
