Raleigh Criterium 12 Triathlon

Retro Newbie
Hello everyone. Just joined up here after finding the site while doing a bit of research on a bike I was looking at which I ended up buying. It's a Raleigh Criterium 12 Triathlon 501. Cost me £50, don't know if that's good or not but it looks in decent nick (I've not picked it up yet). I was wondering if there's a site I could go to, to get the specs on the bike, BB size, head tube ID ect. I'll be upgrading the parts over time with more modern parts so want to find out what will fit/work. Any info would be great :)

From reading the advert for the bike I got it's mostly original. Don't think the hubs are, it's got a Pelissier on the rear and a Maillard on the front, both with alloy rims.

Would it have a 1" quill in the head?

That's it :-)

Not a lightweight, but built in the main factory at Nottingham

Wheels may have been changed at some point, its 29 years old after all!

Looking at yours its had the rear mech changed for the Sachs Huret standard Raleigh one at some point, and lost its Shimano Adamas brake levers

(I've got the Record Sprint below it in your post 8) )

It's in the lightweight/handmade catalogue, was that just some clever advertising by Raleigh? Ya it would be rather impressive if the original wheels had lasted this long! It hasn't travelled far in all those years, I'm only in Derby :)

To be honest I can't decide if I should restore it or update it. With you saying it's not that original I might update it. Plus, to my very limited knowledge I don't think it's really a classic bike as such so wouldn't hurt putting a few new bits on it.

Just looked at the Sprint of yours, what a stunner :)

Re:

Bargain at 50 notes . It will make for a good Retro ride . Use as is all year round . A good steel frame as well .

Ya I'm hoping it's as good as it looks when I pick it up :) Not sure whether to restore it or put updated parts on it. Very tempted to do the gears and put a 8-9 speed on it but I'll have a good few rides on it before I do too much :) I saw a stunning bike that one of the pros at the Giro uses for his day to day ride. It's an old steel ram with a lovely paint job but with all modern parts, wouldn't mind something like that :)

Criterium Triathlon

I bought a clean one of these frames for £10, having it shot blasted and going to do a neon paint job and build it with old Shimano 6400. Do you know the BB threading and the seat post diameter?
