Raleigh Banana mountain bike - dynatech

Hi all,

Well recently I got in touch with an old cycling friend as I was aware back in 90 I sold him my old bikes (including a beautiful Brian rourke with delta group set) Unfortunately that's gone but he given me back my old team Raleigh banana mountain bike. It was top of the range dynatech bike as I worked in a Raleigh stockist as a kid of course painted in the banana team colours. I will send pics very shortly as need to pick this up from parents but I'm thinking of a restore etc .. Does anyone remember the history of this bike ? It was certainly not cheap in the day although at present I'm not sure of its condition it's been kept indoors since 1990ish. I'd love to restore it as its my old bike and holds a lot of memories or racing on it

Sorry i can't give you any info on your particular model Raleigh but i am looking forward to seeing some pic's of your old bike and i just love it when i discover some one has got their old bike back after years of selling it ..

I've got a poor picture that one of my parents sent that I will try and work out how to post but I'm expecting it back this week so some good pics to follow :) thanks for your reply and hopefully it's not dead after all these years :)

Re:

Check out the team colour bike part way down the page of the link below, anything like your bike? That's a 1990 Dynatech 2070 frame with full Suntour XC Pro which was the only one that came in the team colours at the time I think (could be wrong as not an expert on these things). We had one as the "shop Bike" when I worked at the Hawick Cycle Centre back in 90/91.

 just realised this is in the Road bike section. There's some good info on Dynatech's in the thread I posted regardless.

You guys are brilliant !! That's it the very one right there and really takes me back. Unfortunately it's only the frame at the moment and my old friend is looking for the groupset but that's the one. Wonderful stuff I recall it well. What do you think is it worth a restore ? even though I wouldn't even know where to start sourcing the bits I am tempered to have it re sprayed and put some new stuff on it kind of make it a old/new approach. Thanks so much for looking at that - be grateful of any thoughts and advice

Oh apologies guys - guess the noobie fits my well

Well if you can save the picture to your computer assuming the pic has been emailed to you then you should be able to upload to photobucket or image shack depending on which your using then copy and then paste onto your thread ..

Well i should imagine if the bike was in working order when it was left to gather dust then it should still work although it may require some cleaning and regreasing of wheel bearings and such like and the front and rear mechs maybe a little stiff to use but with a bit of a clean and a relube should be fine although i would remove all cables and replace if their looking a bit rusty and going brittle otherwise i'd just give them a clean with white spirit and relube them and depending on the age of the tyres and where the bike was left they maybe perished or just might a wash to freshen them up so don't expect the worst but by the same rule don't go writing it off if it looks a bit scruffy when you get it as it's amazing what a bit of tlc can produce ;) ..
