Raleigh Activator

my mate was going to buy one of those then drape it in xtr, cooks cranks, fancy wheels etc and see what people would say. we tend to be polite to newbies (as we should be) so i think it would have been quite amusing. possibly

I've got a really really clean Activator GS, the softail beast, does ride really nice for a huge one, was going to clean it up,. maybe get a few bits on it, I'll get some pics up on here soon

Its like this one here, lol

what about this one, a whopping £45 BIN

My dad has one of these exact bikes in his shed (still rides it at weekend). Pretty much "mint" condition, but the Suspension forks can now only be described as "ultra rigid" :D

MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate these bikes - the worst type of BSO imaginable. I'm not being snobbish, you try working on the damn things to make them ridable

god i remember the original adverts promising...
An increase in traction
better ride comfort
More appealing to girls when pulling a big skid
(last one maybe a bit of a lie...)

Activator II

My father in law who recently passed away had one of these in his shed and for some reason I now have it in mine. The bike was obviously used for pub trips and the like.

The only thing that I know about bicycles is how to ride them (more of a m/cycle man) but oddly I would hate to 'skip' this bike and have the strangest desire to 'do it up'.

It is in need of general nuts and screw replacement and I have noticed that the front sprockets (thing that the chain goes around) are cracked and that the front suspension no longer works (seems common).

I would usually go onto the internet and search for parts by model name (for m/cycle) but given the results so far it seems that I do not speak the bicycle lingo and do not know anything about compatible parts.

So to my question, aside from taking the bike into a bike shop and saying "fix this" can you recommend a resource or knowledge site that would be helpful.

Sorry to be so long winded!

I think you've found it fella!
You'll spend way more than it's worth doing it up though, so be sure it's really what you want. I'm not saying don't do it, my house is made of very thin glass on that front, just that financially it's a bad move :P
