Hi, like some more information on this, looks like a Raleigh time trial special with single gear shifter. Very light at 2.5kg with the Super Record headset and no seat bolt, take off 140g for headset and grease....2.36kg. Sorry some of the photos are blurred... cheers guys.

Re:

Yep, the previous owner had it painted by Roberts and they personalised it as his name was Bob. l can only see white overspray in the bb shell, maybe it was white originally.

1980-81 from the number. Looks like TT special to me, I'm a child of the 70's and at that time would have usually been finished in gold or silver :)

Lovely frame :)

Re:

Thanks for your comments, reading through Neil's site.. there's a lot of data to absorb (brilliant stuff) i think it's more than likely to be 1980. Also looks to be an early TT Special using drilled Shimano vertical dropouts a opposed to Capag with washers brazed on the inside. Will take the forks out and look for any original paint next.

Re:

Nice frame and 1980 period. It only has the one lever which kind of implies TT but geometry is the only way to tell the difference. Vertical ends were an option on road frames too. I've got a couple of road frames with Shimano vertical ends. It has 2 slots on the BB so could have started life with 2 levers but had a boss removed when it was painted; the Reynolds transfers date from 1989+ so repainted 1989 onwards.

Just out of curiosity, if it was built as a non stock item with vertical dropouts for a client would it have had an H number on the BB as well?

Re:

I wonder what the earliest known Shimano dropout frame number is. Also would the twin groove bb shell's be milled in batches ready to be picked by the builder, using one for a short distance TT frame and both for a long distance double shifter frame.
