RAL paint colds for a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR

I've just gotten my Stmpjumper FSR frame and without further ado i'd like to get it off to Windridge for a paintjob :)

Obviously before i send it off I'd like to get the right colour codes for the Red front end and the grey rear end (so it can be built up ASAP!)

does anyone know the correct ones?

And secondly will replacement decals (which i still have top source) adhere properly to the powdercoat?

Sorry, I can't help you with the colour codes, but I'm thinking of using Windridge for my frame, when I get around to it, so I'd be really interested to hear what you think of them when you get the frame back.

Dunno if this helps, but when ever I've had paint jobs on my car, the paint shop are not intrested in the cars paint code at all.

they either have a big set of table, or use a wand lingy they wave over the paint and it tells them the way to make up the paint.

Also most decent sprayers can almost sniff out a RAL code from 30 paces. Take it to them and ask,I bet they are not far out.

Powder coat comes premixed to defined shades / colours, normally RAL :-) Special colours / shades can be mixed, at a cost ... :-(

Take your frame to a car body shop paint suppliers and ask them to match it to the closest RAL, take note of the result and buy a £5 touch up for their time / trouble :-) Send the RAL code to Windridge :-)

They did a great job on my Marin and the ProFlex will go to them to :-) My OE Marin stickers have stuck to it really well - cleaned it with white spirt and a micro fibre before application.

WD :-)

Unfortunately the frame is already stripped of 99.9999999% of it's paint (by the previous owner) so paint matching is impossible (especially since the front end was green anyway!).

I have previously contacted Specialized uk for the pile of rust that was a Stupjumper frame and as helpful as they were they were honest enough to confess they had no info on original tube specs nor paint (in the UK nor US)

I may have to take a wild guess at it then.

RAL3002 (Carmine red) looks quite dark on a small sample but is nice and bright when on framework :D

Natural, fluorescent & flash (which 'bleaches' it a bit) :

It's very similar to my toolbox red if that helps ?

Be careful with reds as RAL3020 (Traffic red) looks nice and bright on a small sample but looks quite orangey when on a larger area :?

Excellent!

I was looking at 3001 Signal red but in natural light that seems a tad better.

Now for the back end. - it's currently polished up (with only tiny traces of paint in extremely hard to get places left) as tempted as i am to polish it and lacquer it i am going with the grey painted back end.

I'm struck between 7022 Umber grey and 7024 graphite grey - erring towards Umber TBH

3001 and 3002 look very similar on my 50x130mm samples :D

I prefer 7024 to 7022 but again, it’s hard to tell without seeing a large item :?

We use 7021 at work which is very dark, my Marin is in 7016 (but satin) :

Right just got off the phone to them.
Seemed quite keen about it for my FSR. it's 1 colour @ £89 plus a second colour for £36 plus return postage of £17 (insured for £1000) and getting it there i the first place) so just over the £155 mark (after i include getting it to them)

I'll be packing it and boxing it up today for couriering off tomorrow.
(pending a few before pics!) That should leave me 2 weeks to scrounge up some money for a new shock and to try and sort some decals out ( if you forget about a fork, cassette, suitable seat post, a front mech in case my XT one doesn.t like non compact rings, the list is endless!)
