After polishing alloy and steel components, like cranks, what do people recommend to prevent it from oxidizing again over time? Lacquer?

Polishing it again with Autosol, then putting it back over the nice dry mantlepiece. Avoid wet, salty roads at all costs.

A clear spray lacquer will keep it shiny.

I use Rustins , which is a paint on, but the same thing is available in spray form.

Pantene Shampoo! It has silicone in it. Rub it on neat, rinse off. This trick was given by a pal who is a jeweller - he uses it on silver to stop tarnishing. It also works well on his Ducati 916.

I have to try the Pantene trick if only because it sounds so very weird. Should I go for "colour protect" or ""gold series moisture boost?
