Just a simple question, is the latest P2 forks is different in sizes from the early '90's P2 forks? the gap looked bigger from the top of tyre to underneath of forks on the latest P2 forks, maybe it's my eyes telling me something else!
Thanks, so the latest rim brake P2 will be the same as the early '90's P2? the only difference is the moulding shape at the bottom which clamp the wheel.
You need a Kona expert really, but around about 95 - 96 Kona (like the rest) will have started making their frames to suit suspension forks so the head tube will be about 30mm - 40mm higher than on earlier frames. This means that their rigid forks were made longer by the same amount to suit the different steerer height on the 'new' frames. Since the wheels are the same diameter but the fork legs are longer, the gap between tyre and crown is bigger.
So, for an early '90's frame you need P2's that are not suspension corrected.
If you look at the picture of TaulPaul's three bikes http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21650
the 1996 Lava Dome in the middle has P2s of the current, supposedly suspension-adjusted, length of 41 cms and the (I think) 92 one on the right has the shorter ones. I think the difference is 2cms and the slightly longer ones came in from 1994.
