Proflex 857

Hi Chaps,

Happy New Year..

I have the opportunity to start 2009 off with a bang by acquiring a rather nice Proflex 857.

I had raced an older version many years ago, but this ones got a carbon swing arm and has had both elastomers replaced with Air Shocks..

Question is, are they any good? I wanted it for XC races that will clatter my teeth and epic rides..

Cheers

Mark

Definately good bike. Sounds like the airshocks may be Risse. The rears work flawlessly, but the fronts have too much stiction IMO. Suspension bushings are still available from Iron Horse I recall.

Twas me, I would purchase, swap the crosslinks with Noleen megairs 100mm, and pull the weight down below 24lbs. Then you have a screamer. Somewhat like I have here, my 957.

Thanks, nice bike BTW..

It has the Risse shock at the rear and the Girvin fronts have (apparently) been installed with a Risse..

Its pretty tricked out too, so I will post pics just as soon as I pick it up 8)

856

Hi, I've got an 856 which I think is the same front frame. Nice to ride, mine currently has a girvin rear shock with no damping what so ever and it's sill rideable. Here she is in lightweight retro frame/modern bits mode.

Buy it!! If it doesn't suit, flog it on or split it- there's plenty folks here and on idRiders who'd snap up an 857 with Risse shocks- I doubt ye'd end up out of pocket!!
