Problems with ebay and getting a partial refund...

Any advice welcome. At this precise moment in time I feel like closing my ebay account.

Bought a frame, shock had damage not described, didn't get ebay involved, just messaged the seller and we agreed a partial refund. However....

Rather stupidly I thought ebay had to be notified in order for the partial refund to go through, also wanted to keep it all above board and in their line of sight in case of any problems. At first, a partial refund was offered, which I rejected as it wasn't what we'd agreed. Messaged the seller after rejecting offer, heard nothing.

Decided to escalate it to a case in the resolution centre. Partial refund not an option, have to request a return. Explained, time after time, just wanted help to get a partial refund, didn't want to return item. This morning have a huge long email, where it is very obvious they haven't actually read one single word of the information and request I gave them, and I have a label to print off and send the frame back. (No printer, no easy access to the parcel shop I have to use)

Have replied to that email, but the reply has disappeared, doesn't show in 'sent' messages file, nothing.

Anyone else had a similar issue? What did you do in the end? Don't want to give up but there's no way I'm returning the frame, so do I just shrug my shoulders, walk away and enjoy the bike? (It'll still need a new shock at some point but I have got this one partially working, something else that will surely cause an issue if I return it, I shouldn't have fiddled... )

You could try phoning PayPal/eBay if that's an option. Otherwise chalk it up to experience and try to put it behind you.

Personally, when I think of the money I've lost or time wasted through outright scammers/things not quite being as expected or described via forums and eBay - I often wonder if I would have been better buying new or from a proper shop.

Certain things I don't even attempt to buy second hand/look for a bargain on eBay anymore as they seem to attract the criminal underclasses.

Re:

I should say, I'm very confident the seller isn't any sort of criminal, just a very busy man who can't be arsed any more with this, I think. I'm not going to get involved in ringing ebay, as I've only got a PAYG mobile, so that's out of the question really.

I have now found a way of replying to the ebay email, via my own email account rather than through the messaging system on ebay. It shows now as a reply, at least in my hotmail account, so we'll see where that gets me...

Otherwise, yes, I will quite happily put it down to experience I think, I just get so frustrated that ebay make such a huge fuss nowadays about listening to their customers, when they simply don't. If you don't fall into their very precise categories, you're b*ggered!

Spot on.

They encourage you to work it out then put obstacles in your way.

Conversely it is easier than ever to get a full refund.

There is an option where you can request a call from ebay.

Re:

Trouble is, I HATE talking on 'phones, especially when I can't say for definite I'll be able to answer, due to work and other commitments.

Plus, emails/messages - so much easier to think through what you want to say and actually get all your points across, I find. Or perhaps not, in this case

(BTW they have now acknowledged my email reply to their email....)

Re:

Hi mate

I'm sorry you had that problem with Ebay and I understand your frustration. I also have suffered since I have been scammed 3 times by sellers from Ebay.

It is quite frustrating to claim something to ebay because of all the difficulties they put , and if the payment is not made by paypal , buyers are totally unprotected by Ebay .

The only claim I have achieved has been solved because the payment was made by paypal: a Spanish seller who put fake photographs. But I have been scammed by two sellers from Germany who did not accept paypal , and Ebay has not bothered even to ask me for the evidences I had to show I have been cheated : they do not ask for pictures , messages or payment proofs ...

Spent a long time trying to claim in ebay just to fight bad faith sellers , but finally I have to say was lost time and effort .

Have a great weekend
