Prevent rubber grips from becoming sticky/deteriorating?

Hello folks,

I didn'find anything via the search mask, so here's my question:

How do I prevent my NOS Sachs Power Grip Pro handlebar grips from melting?
They're starting to become slightly sticky.
I know, grip shifters...

but to answer your question, you might be able to use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) to clean the "goo" off, but it depends on how far gone the grips have deteriorated.
