They're not near you but I'm going to give my Orange to Banbury Powder Coatings. They've quoted around £80 for frame and forks, for a plain black finish. That's me providing the frame without anything bolted to it as well.

Depends who you use. Powdercoating usually isn't expensive, although Orange, for example, charge £150. Your powdercoater down the road will charge way less than that, I've had frames done for a tenner before. Note that results vary accordingly - Orange charge 15 times as much because they do a 15 times better job. Just make sure the powdercoater is up to it is what I'm saying.

Yeah, get it shot blasted first. Some places will do this in house anyway.

Just Google 'powder coaters' in your area, ring a couple and ask;

Mine in Eastbourne charges £35 - £40 for frame and forks; you need to degrease them thoroughly, they will do the blast cleaning. Most know to cover thread and bearing surfaces as the majority of them are familiar with m'cycle frames. They all keep colour swatches for the various brand of powders they stock so will be more than happy to help you find the colour you're after...

...or recommend a better one 8)

You're not too far away from me. I've used Clive Hasley for a couple of frames, he's based in Whitehaven. He's got a good range of colours including metallics and candy's. I've paid £60-£75 for frames to be blasted of old paint, any repairs done and then primed, powdercoated and lacquered. It was £60 for just a frame and £75 for frame and forks.

Dave Yeowarthas also powdercoated a swingarm for me, he's in Whitehaven too. This was cheaper at £35, but he had less colours to choose from.

Both numbers should be on Yell.com, but give me a shout if you want any more info :)

thanks a lot guys i thought it would be a lot more you could spend that much on rattle cans!!
i will have to have a phone around but at least i've got a ball park figure now :D

i priced up a rattlecan job for an old marin, 2 tins of primer, 3 colour (2 for the frame & 1 for the forks), 2 clear coat - all at £7 or £8 a can makes it over £50 before you've bought any wire wool or wet & dry!

if you have access to a compressor & spray gun then the price will come down a bit but realistically your still staring down a £40 bill.

as a result, i'm going for powder on the clockwork in the couple of months!

ive been on to carlisle powder coating (never heard of it and im from carlisle!!) and they say £50 to shot blast and powder a mtb frame but not sure if thats a hard tail because my frame is 5 parts!
