Peugeot PH501 Ventoux

Love those old Pugs. Looks like a snip with those components on. I'm interested in the comments regarding 501. My next task is to build up a late 80's Aneto 501 frame set that I came across some time ago. I'll be interested to see what it's like compared to a 531. Keep you posted.
Enjoy that Ventoux - she looks a dream !

Re:

The Suntour Winner Pro freewheel had some play/wobble in it even though the cogs had no wear on them, so against the advice of Sheldon Brown I dismantled it.
Was surprisingly easy, I put a rag over before removing the outer to catch any balls but they all stayed in place.
Will clean it up and reassemble without the thin shim to see if that removes the play.
I think putting it back together is going to be the difficult part - photos are in the wrong order.

Re:

Freewheel back together, much cleaner and no wobble as I left out the the thin spacer.

Stripped and regressed the pedals, the grease had turned to toffee!

Re:

The spokes were very rusty, so armed with the Roger Musson wheelpro book and some MDF I have rebuilt the wheels with new spokes.

I polished the hubs whilst the wheels were apart

Vittoria Open Corsa SC II tyres from Ribble fitted.

Re:

I forgot to put any completed pictures up.

Went for Ambrosio ribbon tape and have also put a 36 inner chainring on as the 39 was a little high.

The Campagnolo shifters didn't work very well with the simplex braze one so got some unbranded Simplex retrofrictions instead.

Been out for a ride so a little dirty.
