Hi is there an easy way to identify the difference between a perthus Reynolds 753 or 531
apart from the weight . it's been resprayed so cant go by colour

Re:

Just put it on a set of luggage scales and it weighs

Frame 3.7 lb - 1650g

Forks 1.3 lb - 550g No Paint

Frame size center to top 60 cm

simplex dropout

Have 2 Perthus frames:

1747 g and 669 g and 1797 g and 695 g frames and forks. Both silver grey, 58 cm, from 1987. 531 Pro is 1961g and 704 g and is only 56 cm (all ctc), from 1988.

There is chrome on part of the stays and the forks. The Perthus' have lions engraved at the top of the fork blades and the 531 Pros don't (have 2 of these as well but don't know stripped down weight of the other). However, I don't think engraved lions are only found on 753s. The seat tubes may have different measurements: pretty sure it's 26.8 for the 753 (and on a 1990 653) and think it's 26.4 for the 531 Pro but can check if needed.

Re:

So the weight would suggest 753 r
it has the lions engraved at the top of the fork blades
1987 ( B7xx )
There is no chrome on the stays or the forks as its all been resprayed

seat tube measurement inside diameter. around 27mm

Internal measurement is 26.8, ie seat post is that size. Have just checked to confirm. The 26.8 seat post won't fit in 531 Pro but the markings on that post not readable but seem to think was 26.4.

Lots of these frames were chromed to end of seat stays and part of right hand chain stay, and the forks. Some painted over by Peugeot: some people have stripped the paint off. My 653 Athena (1990) has chrome under the fork paint (the purple colour way).

They used Simplex drop outs - the serial number sounds definitely Peugeot. They had chain pegs to bottom of seat stay, gas escape holes at the bottom of each of the 4 stays and 2 each on inside fork blades, top and bottom. Tried to attach link to the Peugeot catalogues but seems to be down. Thought I had the 1987 catalogue, turns out to be 1988 UK. That year they used 753 and 531 Pro and 531 with an ATB and 531 ST with some touring frames. If you would like it, send me a PM and I'll attach it and send (it's a PDF).

Good luck.
