Peugeot Optima 531

Brommers

Retro Newbie
I thought I would post my progress so far. The idea behind the build was to try something new to me and create a bike that I liked the look of, would be half decent to ride and cost not a lot. I didn't want a classic bike as I knew I wanted to repaint and re-sticker it.

I found a 531 framed Peugeot on Ebay which was a decent price and was a rider - it did have a late 80's paint job with some minor rust so I didn't think the world was going to lose an icon when I repainted it!

The RX100 components were in very good condition and polished up nicely. It has new chrome forks (I don't think they are 531 though).
I had the frame soda blasted and powder coated and added the stickers.

I polished up the front wheel and added some new tyres

I just need to finish the rear wheel, renew the wheel bearings and put it all together ready for the summer.

Thanks for looking.

Re: Raleigh Optima 531

I like the new colour and decals - a lot.

Needs a white Turbo saddle in my opinion :D

But would look equally good with matching Charge bar tape.

Re: Raleigh Optima 531

Doh! Yeah, Peugeot not Raleigh!! I had just read a raleigh related post and was rushing to post this at work.
Yep Biopace rings. Also managed to get a NOS big ring as I was having trouble cleaning the old one up. Not fitted the NOS one yet though.

I do have the matching bar tape too. May well swap for white. I don't like the charge logo on the saddle so I would like to rectify that somehow.

the concept of those chain rings has worked for sir brad wig's.i have some on a halfords carrera 531 also with rx100 , could be me but i found them not as smooth particularly at low speeds.
