pace rc36 rattle?

hi all
ive just built up my kahuna with some pace pro-class (gold leg version) ive had for a while.
the forks were set for the 70mm travel and were recently serviced by tim and given a clean bill of health.
i swapped the travel round to 90 using the little pin wotsit / travel springs in the legs and they seem to work very well. however, there is a really annoying 'loose headset' type sound coming from the none-damper leg.
its especially apparent when you lift the bike onto its back wheel and bounce it up and down. you can notice it while riding sometimes too and it knocks a bit like a loose headset when the front brake is on - it seems to get a bit worse when you compress the forks down a bit...

ive had them to pieces and i cant see anything obviously wrong - it seems like the spring itself is rattling against the end of the stanction? the bolts at the bottom of the legs are tight, as are the nylon tube wotsits.

just wondered if anyone could confirm if this is normal/bit of a trait of them, or is it something that needs looking into further?

i'd not really ridden the forks before so i dont know if they were doing it in 70mm mode or not :?

any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

yeah, the spacer's in there. tim checked the bushes too as i thought it might have been that originally but he said they were fine. i'll drop him a line and see if he has any experience of this before - interesting that yours do it too doug. are yours set at 90 or 70?

ahh
just spoke to sensei tim and it seems that the noise is the spring rattling against the inside of the leg, and that sadly it is one of those things.
he suggested flipping the spring round the other way, or maybe switching the springs round in the L and R legs to see if that had any effect so i'll have a crack at that asap and report back...
cheers for the suggestions chaps!

rattle

Yep, unfortunately the '97 and onward coil spring based forks can suffer with a spring rattle caused by the spring "clacking" against the inside of the carbon [lift the front wheel off the floor and slap your legs to try it-no... your FORK legs!!]. It can help to spin your spring or whip it out and put it in upside down[works well on Evo2 or 3]. Springs can take on a "set" and will fall or bend in one way or another in compression and sometimes this can coincide with the proximity of other components.
Sometimes of course it does'nt happen at all
