Well, I joined this forum, originally to shift an old bike. But, what can I say I caught the bug and decided to get myself a bike I had always lusted after when I was a teenager! With that in mind and being a Yorkshire man, what else could I choose as my first project, but a Pace. 8)

I've got the frame, forks, stem, headset, chain rings and seat pin. I've got some RC130 bars on the way and a friend is attempting to dig out some XT thumbies from his cellar! Also a steerer from Tim, once I get paid.

I cannot decide what to do with the seat pin, do I polish it, to make it bare metal, or give it a quick repaint in black. :?

I just need to decide on the rest of the build/source the bits (oh and get paid), but my current thinking is:

Mechs: XTR M900
Cassette: XTR M900
Cranks: I have no idea, Middleburn?
Wheels: Again, no idea, but somethining with 217 CD or ceramic rims
Tyres: absolutely not a clue!
Seat: Flite?
Brakes/Levers: Cantilevers Shimano or something a bit different, but again no idea as yet.

I'm hoping once I see something, I'll know whether it'll be right!

Anyone, have any suggestions?

Oh and a decent camera for the finished pics!

As a fellow Yorkshireman and pace fan, let me congratulate you on making the right choice! :)

The build sounds about right to me, deffo go with the middleburn cranks, and flites just look right on a pace.

Just one question, it looks as though your missing the seat clamp from the frame, or do you have it tucked away for safe keeping?

Cheers, what else can a Yorkshireman buy!

The seat clamp, and cantilelever bosses have been removed for a clean.

Dont suppose you fancy swapping your silver stem for one the same but in gunmetal do you?

At the moment, I think I'll stick with silver. However, if once built I have a change of heart, I'll let you know!

The frame has come up well 8)
What polish did you end up using?
Glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves, sure I'll regret the sale seeing it fully built.

You and about 5000 other people then

Welcome !! Nice bike, some great ideas on parts, keeping it British with Middleburn/Pace is a good idea :)

Hi Dave,

Yeah the frames come out better than I thought! In the end all I've used was a bit of muc-off degreaser on a cloth, followed by some Autoglym Super Resin polish! The least harsh clean/polish steps I could think of!

It is a lot more mirror like in the flesh, I'm well pleased with it! :D

Thanks again!
Dave

Well it's been a bit of a long time! Over 2 years! But I have finally finished the F3 for now.

Not quite sure why it took so long, I haven't gone for rare/hard to find parts.

I blame the distractions of modern bikes and riding!

Spec list, as follows.

M900 mechs, brakes, Middleburn cranks (RS??), XT thumbies, SS5 brake levers, M900 wheels on 261 and 231 CD rims, Smoke and Dart tyres.
