"out front" GPS/Garmin mount?

I'm not sure if this wouldn't be better in road or general OT, but since it applies mainly I think to modern road bikes.... What are the reasons for out front style GPS mounts? I've ordered a new Garmin 530 (have been using a GPS watch for years) and plan on mounting it on the stem, as (to me) it just looks cleaner... I don't like the "out front" look... But it seems to be the most popular choice by far - why? Any particular reason?

put's it in my eye line without the need to look all the way down to the steerer. on both my road bikes the stem is 100mm, with a further 40-60mm on the mount it puts the head unit in easy to view location.
I've run it on the steerer top before and found it just a tad to far back for a quick look.

Yeah, i run out front on all my bikes, puts it in a spot easy to see. Also I think stem mounts look cluttered and bad. I only use a stem mount if I dont have an out front spare to use...but different strokes for different folks

Also, more aero...
