Original Zaskar..? 91' ?

Hi...browsing locally and picked this up....by all appearances a very early ...1991? ...Zaskar.
Needs some TLC...
And some strange numerical stamping around the BB area.
Looks too tidy for a previous owners ID....but no idea who it could reference.
Any insights from anyone?
Cheers!

The frame number has been erased from the inside LH drop out...but , very neatly...not in a ive-just-nicked-it-way.
Also...there has been no size stamping on the outside of the LH dropout.
The PA80YG is not a postcode ......
Hmmmmm......

Ok..so definitely a Zaskar...91 or 92.
But the stamping is puzzling , and the missing size stamp also...hhmmm

Nope....no searches..post office , broadband suppliers etc...recognises it as a valid postcode.
And , if you look closely , i think its actually PA80YG1.....who knows ?!

Re:

The stamping on the bottom bracket/chain stay area looks like the name RICH and a date of birth - 1975 would make it a 16 year old Richard in 1991?

Re:

Theres every chance that it could be a 1992 Pantera.

Without the serial number it is very hard to tell

Pantera is 7005 and Zaskar is 6061 - side by side, when polished, the Zaskar will be more chrome coloured with the 7005 Pantera being a more silver. Think stainless steel and nickel side by side.

The pictures do look like there are remnants of silver paint

any numbers at all on the drop-outs?

Re:

No..no numbers anywhere at all...other than those visible BB area
You can see where there has been efforts to remove ID on the inside of the LH drop out...but it has been done really neatly , not in the style of a bike thief in my opinion.
so...visually , are you saying there is no difference between a Pantera and Zaskar.....? Did alloy Panteras have flat end caps then..?
Thanks!

Just had a look at a 1992 Pantera...and it looked like the top tube / head tube gusset is smaller , and it also has another smaller downtube/ head tube gusset which the Zaskar doesn't have. ??

Gussetts are frame size dependant

they really are hard to tell apart

OK.....think i have a 92 Pantera....! According to the below...the top tube gusset weld is a continuous curve from one side , under , and around the other side. The Zaskar is a definite square weld...............

Whilst the '92 Pantera looks almost indistinguishable from a Zaskar once it's been stripped there is one subtle difference, in that the headtube/toptube gusset is a slightly different shape.

With the Zaskar, the weld that goes under the toptube is fairly straight and is at roughly 90 degree's to the horizontal welds along the toptube giving it a squared appearance at it's furthest point from the headtube, Almost like it's three separate welds.

With the Pantera it's a lot more rounded and appears like it's one single continuous weld in an almost crescent shape running from the headtube, under the toptube and back to the headtube again on the other side, Subsequently it looks less squared off at the back edge, They also don't look as long as the Zaskar gusset, but this may be an optical illusion because of the slight difference in profile.

Not to worry......cleaned up and some nice XT stuff from the back of the shed box it will be a nice ride.....it was only £25 anyway .
Guess early Panteras had frame numbers on the BB/downtube....explains the PA80YG1..??
