Orange P7

Dirt Disciple
Hi,

I have recently acquired an Orange P7 from around '97. I'm rebuilding it with as close to '97 bits as possible.

I have come across a problem though and need a solution. When the frame was stripped down I noticed that the front mech had a adapter plate fitted to the BB so the front mech wasn't clamped to the frame. My questions then are:

1. Why would that be done?
2. What size clamp would I be looking for? If I wanted to use a clamp instead (something tells me that I'd have more success finding Unicorn pooh than a front mech to fit the adapter plate)

The original front mech was Deore XT.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

1. It just looks cleaner than a clamp on front mech.

2. You can measure the diameter of the tube using a vernier gauge. Should come out at 28.6 iIrc. You'll also need a 2mm spacer to fit the BB when you remove the front mech plate, otherwise your chainline will be all over the place.

The BB for the plate mech has an E on the end,[for example UN-52E]something to do with a wider cup [cant beat a wider cup  ]or longer or something, well its different anyhow.

going about asking for an 'E' might get you arrested

 Sorry
