Just picked this up. Mostly XT with Hope hubs & Mavic 521 rims. It's got old 3 bolt rotor & front mounted caliper on front fork. In need of a damn good service. Not planning on spending much - hopefully just service items. Front may go to V brake depending how it goes.

Aye - I've some Pace Airforce II's on my P7 workbike & I've been thinking of putting original rigid forks & mudguards back on that so the Airforce may end up on this. Would be a better fit age-wise.

New headset bearings & mech hanger on the way. A badly neglected bike. Struggled to remove seat post & BB.

Re: Orange EVO 2 - 1999

Had to send bearings back as they were for new version of the headset. No longer available so new headset fitted - just as cheap! The front fork is toast except for spares so I've put on the RC38 Air Force II from another build that's gone rigid. Old Hope disc brake has gone but I've kept the splined hub as it's in good nick & just cleaned & repacked the bearings, same for the rear but replaced 2 of the four bearings. Now running Avid Arch Rival V brakes on it's Mavic 521 rims. One of the LX shifters was missing screws & had cracked casings so they've gone in the parts bit & been replaced with XT740 shifters. The existing XT cassette & mechs have been kept. Mech hanger was a bit mangled so replaced via Orange's webshop! The bars & seat post were a bit of a mess so replaced with period correct Orange ones I had, along with an Orange saddle. A hope sticker & some close matching nail varnish & clear lacquer have dealt with the odd bit of paint loss.

Cant decide aesthetically if I like the Crud Catcher or not on this build. The back one defo isn't going back on.

Lovely colours. Really like this... not so keen on the crud catcher but if it serves a purpose until it gets drier up here then I’d stick with it for now mate.

Aye - I grew to like it more as I fettled it. It'll not be ridden hard but I'm wary of the head tube cracking - seeing a lot of that on old Orange ali bikes recently!
