Orange C-16R

Hi, sorry if the information is readily available elsewhere, a quick Google didn't yield much (except some lovely pictures).

I've got one. I bought it after it had been modified and resprayed by Bob Jackson (singlespeeded, gear cable lugs and rack tabs removed) and it's my daily commuter.

Could anyone tell me which years they were made as C-16Rs, and whether they were still made in the UK? (and, if possible, what sort of steel they're made from?) I plan on riding it for as long as I have legs, it's a wonderful bike (yes, even in somewhat bastardised 42x14 fixed wheel format!), just interested in its history.

Thanks!

Not sure about Fotopic ?, but with photobucket you use the jpg[/IMG] link.

I'm guessing 95-96 or 98 for the C16, it was the 16th evolution of the Clockwork frame.

This could be wrong so i'm ready to be shot down in flames :D

Also if you look under the bottom bracket shell you can decode the year from the frame number

It wouldn't have been made in the UK. Steel orange frames have been produced in Taiwan since the early 90's. The steel is Orange's own series - Series 7 I believe for the c16-r.

It looks like a 17" frame, and if it's a C16 then it's from between 1995-early 97.
Orange Series 7 tubing and built in the Far East.

Or.........."what OrangeRetro said".

The first three numbers of the serial number should give you the month and year of production.

C16R

I bought mine new in 1995, so obviously 95' is correct.

Still running & still much loved.... :)

I'll clean it one day and post a pic.

No probs.. nice looking bike by the way. Kinda reminds me of a smokey diamond back finish.. which is not a bad thing at all! 8)

Thanks! - in that incarnation it was covered in reflective material (salvaged from destroyed hi-viz jackets!) and silver gaffa tape.

Since then I've stripped all that stuff off and covered it in reflective ambulance tape. It looks white-ish (although almost permanently grubby, it's a commuter and I don't want to attract too much attention) by day and it's very reflective to car headlights at night.
