At least with recent re-issues you get fresh rubber.

I purchased some vintage ones a while back and on the first ride through a bunch of semi sharp rocks (on my way to some soft dirt single track sections), some knobbies started flying out. Kinda funny actually. Tires ended up being dry rotted.
