hey guys,

iv picked up this set of old hope brakes which, although are working good, they are going to need some new pads soon, so can anyone tell me which ones they are please ??

im assuming (hoping!!) that they are still available for them but where do i need to look to find them ??

thanks all :)

They are C2

Ebay is full of pads, just tap in hope C2 and they are there. Sintered ones are best, but usually about £15 for a pair.

I'm not sure that front rotor is right for them though!

wow - instant answer again........ thanks mate :)

the rotors came with them so i just assumed they were right ??

iv just had a gander at them and the rear is a 160 TEKTRO and the front is a 180 HOPE MONO M4 - im hoping all that means more to you than it does to me :?

EDIT...... iv just had a look on ebay and found some 184mm C2 rotors - i guess its the pad surface area that your refering to ?? :)

The rear rotor is correct, but the front has too narrow a braking area. There are plenty of rotors around though.
Pads- I've never been able to make sintered work for me; they squeal and take forever to warm up enough to work properly. I use either Hope Organics or EBC greenstuff.

I still ride Hope C2s on my main "modern" bike. With a 185mm front rotor they are the best brakes I have ever tried/had.

Pads seem to last forever and the adjust ability of the closed system means you can always tweak them.

They do "pump up" on long alpine descents (can just adjust that out on the cap), and they are a little heavy compared to modern brakes.

I have the "pro" lever, yours are running the longer and heavier "sport" levers.

Hope carry full spares for these still and they use bog standard car brake fluid.

Service instructions are up on Hope's website:

Then drop me a line to find out what it all means
theres a few things to know as the manual makes it sound over simplistic.
Like how to fit the top cap after the bleeding process..I think it would be easier to talk someone through it rather than them relying on the manual alone :?

I would agree that the bleed process is rather more delicate than the manual suggests.

Don't bleed the brakes with the pads in as brake fluid will kill the pads, should they get contaminated from spillage!

I agree that sintered pads take a while to bed in and get right, but once done, they are fantastic.
