Ok, what do you guys think?

I appreciate that this topic has already been spoken of but it seems some two years ago so I may be opening a whole new can of worms, so apologies in advance!!
Just been looking at the boardman bikes and am thinking of splurging £1k on a HT Pro.This is after a very generous offer from the wife.
I have looked at them in Halfords and they look pretty good as do most of the range including the hybrids and the roadies. I have two friends who both have boardman's and they rave about them but they aren't MTB's. Its got sram x9 gruppo which is something I have little experience of against Shimano. I appreciate the Halfords connection isn't great but I dont have a problem with it as I have a good carrera and I am happy to look beyond the logo. Incidentally the carrera is still going strong and some of you will have seen it on here, and it will continue to be used.
The question is are these bikes any good? They seem to be getting good reviews but would appreciate any views and feedback.
Constructive please no Halfords bashing, thats another argument!

Cheers
Mike

some i know buy them and strip them ,sell the frame and buy a better frame
probably not much wrong with them as they are tho

I got my boardman pro last year on the bike2work scheme and i can honestly say it has been superb, Ive done over 1800 miles on it mostly off road and the only thing thats failed has been the bottom bracket which was an sram problem not boardman. The bike itself is light, fast, comfy, sure footed on the downs and climbs amazing. In a word its brill. One thing though, change the tyres they are pants.

Here's my 2010 one

All I've read and heard about the bikes is positive - seem to be great value for money.
All I would say is that you may need to give it a thorough check before riding it - take it to your LBS if not confident to do it yourself.
Halfords aren't renowned for thorough PDI's!

They are great value. No debating that they are some of the best value out there!

I love halfords

That depends where you go (but then thats still guess work to the customers), but certainly DO NOT sign it over until you are completely happy. Check paintwork etc. as halfords bike storage isnt the best.

A friend has two boardman bikes (boardmen?) and I have to say they are superb. Brand snobbery aside, you'll do well to match it for the money.
