Oh good.

Re:

I think my ideal scenario would be to find out that I'm one of those people who has already had the virus but so mildly that I didn't think anything of it at the time.

However, I haven't been tested for covid yet.

Slightly unpleasant, but nothing beyond a bit of a gag from touching your tonsils, and an eye watering, but nothing painful.
This is because though I'd had the symptoms, which unless a 2nd test says it was a mild form, or covid related, it appears to be a simple viral infection, just poor timing is all.
So unless you feel ill theres no point in applying for it.

One small niggle about the test is you need to snap the cotton bud shaft for it to fit into the sample sterile vial, and even though the shaft is a hard plastic, trying to snap it is quite difficult.
Oddly the snapped section has to exactly fit, so needs 'snapped' at exactly the height of the top of the vial, which I found to be a bit difficult and doubt most could to that.

I sterilized a pair of cable cutters and used those

They are true to governmental online form in that to return it you need type in a bunch of codes, and after you think you've got it right it surprises you by then announcing that there are two types of test, and which do you have ?
 there are 2 ??, and with the box now security sealed how the F%^& do i id which im sending
