Getting bums on saddles and more people riding bikes is no bad thing, though you do have to wonder if such half-hearted posers do cycling more harm than good. They pop up on the road scene too, the expression "all the gear, no idea" generally applying. Again, identikit bikes, usually from the same old 3 or 4 brands, are the order of the day.

Try Cycling Weekly's tech pages, week after week after week (that and sportive ride reports seem to be CW's bread and butter these days, much like the Daily Express with Diana conspiracies, health scares and random bigotry). Pretty much anything people think has a hard-as-nails, race-bred Stateside image but is in fact plastered with "Made in Taiwan" stickers ought to fit the bill.
