(not so) retro bike question - O/S stem/Bars

Does anyone use Oversize, ie 31.8 stem and basr on any of their bikes? any noticable improvement, or just Industry/Media hype to make us buy more stuff?

I have one bar/stem combination in OS. USE carbon bar with red Hope stem. Looks quite good with the fat tube on the Trimble. But i prefer standard size. And Klein MC1. :D

Using oversized on both my modern bikes, i think they look better and make me feel safer. Never had any prob's with normal either.

I recently switched from standard dia aluminium Pro Tapers to Oversize Carbon Pro tapers on my '97 Heckler. Similar rise and sweep and both mounted in decent stems (Race Face and U.S.E. respectively) of equal length and rise.

I can understand rationally the improvement in stiffness of the carbon OS set-up. Still I was blown away that it translates into noticeable different ride. I love the rock solid feel of the Oversized set-up and in the wake of this have converted my latest modern full sus ride as well.

For looks I still prefer the classic silver and gold ano set-up, for performance the oversize kit, no contest.

Enjoy!!

I use them on my cx bike and can't say much either way. Certainly no down sides (apart from being a pain to swap lights over from the mtb for short notice night rides).

MAinly did it because there are there's a much greater choice of drop bars when thinking 31.8mm.

Very

Gives a very firm robust feel to your control centre..

Use it on my road bike and my singlespeed, no complaints

I've got OS on the 575, but only because the stem for the Maverick DUC forks was only available in OS. Can't say i've noticed any difference
