Yeah, had lot's of features from XTR that had not been seen before at that price. Compaired to the '92 LX it was a massive step up imo.

'old' LX and 'new' LX

The shifters were the only major difference - XT style rapidfire plus instead of the old 'push-push'. The chainset on an early LX had aluminium rings, DX having lighter better finished arms.

Mechs were still similar construction with steel cages, back plate and aluminium face. Front mech introduced better top-pull.

Back when I was yooof, polishing the new LX chainset to make it look like xtr was popular.

I think it was the finish that made it stand out. No more dull components after a few rides or cheap looking shifters. I have had the old LX in mint condition on an e-stay Saracen and currently have almost complete 110 BCD 'new' LX and compact drive stuff to play with.

The black painted chainset was quite durable in the summer but as soon as the mud got to it....
